Long service spans house price boom

WHEN Brian Munnoch started work as a junior clerk at Leeds Building Society, the average UK house price was £3,360. Nearly half a century later, it is £230,562.

Mr Munnoch shared a joke about his length of service with Prince Andrew when he officially opened the new headquarters two years ago, above, and inset is Mr Munnoch in 1964, the year he joined the society. The Duke of York congratulated him on his long service.

Yesterday, on his retirement, the society paid tribute to Mr Munnoch, 63. Kim Rebecchi, sales and marketing director, said: "When you consider that the society was established in 1875, it is a fantastic achievement by Brian to have worked here for over a third of our proud and successful 135-year history."

Mr Munnoch said: "I've had a wonderful time."
