Lupton names new head of tax division

COMMERCIAL law firm Lupton Fawcett Lee & Priestley has appointed a new director to head its tax division.

Melanie List, who joins the Leeds and Sheffield-based firm from PricewaterhouseCoopers, specialises in all aspects of corporate and property tax, with particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and demergers, business and asset sales, property tax, private equity and tax disputes and investigations.

She is also experienced in employee reward, advising and implementing a range of tax efficient equity incentives.

Elsewhere, Yorkshire financial advisory firm G&E Wealth Management, which has offices in York and Leeds, has strengthened its team with the appointments of Nick Butcher and Stephen Groves. Mr Butcher previously worked for HSBC, Norwich Union and Royal London, while Mr Groves joins from national financial adviser, the LEBC Group. Both are joining G&E Wealth Management as independent financial advisers.

Two sister Harrogate health and leisure clubs are sporting new fitness managers. Chris Swan has taken over the running of the gym at The Academy, whilst Paul Child has been promoted to manager of its sister venue, Beckwith Health Club. Mr Swan was previously a senior instructor at the University of Leeds.

Mr Child joined The Academy two years ago as a fitness instructor and personal trainer after a year working as leisure operations manager at the Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Leeds.

Elsewhere, NorthEdge Capital, a mid-market private equity firm focused on the North of England, has appointed Tom Rowley as an investment manager in its Leeds office. Mr Rowley joins from corporate finance advisory firm DowSchofield Watts.

The Leeds office of commercial property and real estate services advisory firm CBRE has expanded its building consultancy division with the appointment of Jonathan Gobie, who joins the team as surveyor from Smiths Gore in York. Huddersfield-based engineeing firm Patrick Parsons has appointed a new geoenvironmental expert, Dr Steve Black, as principal engineer. He was previously at The Sirius Group.
