Making its trademark in Venice

Yorkshire-based lawyers from Walker Morris have successfully advised the Hotel Cipriani in Venice, a favourite haunt of royalty, film stars, politicians and celebrities, in a Court of Appeal case to protect its trademark.

The hotel, which is owned by Orient-Express Hotels, has successfully defended an appeal in a trademark infringement and passing off case against the operators of the restaurant Cipriani London in Mayfair, London.

The success follows on from the victory Walker Morris secured in the High Court in December 2008 for the hotel. That hearing featured evidence from a string of witnesses including Michael Winner, the hotel, restaurant and food critic.
