Malt Shovel to make way for housing

A WELL-KNOWN West Yorkshire pub has been sold to make way for a residential development.

CBRE’s Leeds specialist markets team, acting on behalf of Punch Taverns, has sold The Malt Shovel in Burley In Wharfedale, which dates from the 1880s.

The property has been sold to Yorparks & Square Feet Residential and Commercial Property Developments for an undisclosed sum.

Planning permission has been granted by Bradford Council for a scheme of four town houses from the existing building, and five houses which will be developed on the former car park.

Clair McGowan, senior surveyor at CBRE’s Leeds office, said: “Businesses at The Malt Shovel had repeatedly proved unsuccessful and the premises eventually closed 18 months ago.

“The purchaser recognised the quality of the location along with the attractive building.”
