Management school extends global reach with new appointments

The advisory board has also appointed a new chairman, Delroy Beverley, who is urging more young people and leaders in the private, public and voluntary sectors to use the expertise available in Yorkshire’s business schools.

Mr Beverley is a director at Incommunities Group, one of the UK’s biggest social housing providers with 1,200 staff and turnover of £93m. He is thought to be the first chairman appointed to a major European business school advisory board who comes from an ethnic minority background.

Mr Beverley said he wanted to highlight the valuable work being done by the school of management, and reach out to all sections of the local community.

He added: “My role is to facilitate dialogue through the board...How can we bring big business ideas to the challenges of running an international business school?

“How can we help the business school to continue to shine? It’s a privilege to have that role. I want to look back in five or 10 years’ time and see that we have lifted the school’s reputation nationally and internationally.”

The business school’s international advisory board has hired HSBC Bank plc chief executive Alan Keir, who oversees the group’s operations in the UK, Continental Europe, Turkey, Bermuda, the Middle East and Africa.

He is joined on the board by Professor Malcolm McDonald, an emeritus professor at Cranfield Business School, and Professor Cordula Barzantny from Toulouse Business School, which is one of the school of management’s international partners.

Dean of the school, Jon Reast, said: “We are delighted that Delroy has taken on the role of chairman and hugely proud to have Alan, Malcolm and Cordula join us.”
