Matrix aims for £1m in R&D spend

MATRIX Multimedia has invested £600,000 in new premises in Halifax.

The company plans to spend £1m in research and development over the next three years.

This should create eight new technical, commercial and manufacturing jobs in the town.

Matrix started out producing educational CD-roms for subjects like geography, maths and medicine.

But as the internet disrupted the market by flooding it with widely available free resources, the company diversified into new products for learning and teaching technology.

Customers include Kia, Coco-Cola, Siemens and BMW.

Exports make up 75 per cent of the company’s £1.5m turnover. Matrix sells to more than 50 countries.

John Dobson, managing director, told the Yorkshire Post: “We are growing at around 20 per cent a year.”

Matrix, which is privately owned, celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. Mr Dobson’s wife, Helen, also works at the business in sales and marketing.
