McCain partners with charity to help vulnerable families

McCain is partnering with Family Fund to ensure that more people can make the most of meal-times together. Here, the company explains just how much this means to them.

At McCain, we believe every family should be able to enjoy mealtimes together, taking time for the little moments that matter.

But we know for some families, enjoying mealtimes isn't always possible. That's why we’ve gone one step further, with a commitment to donate £1m to Family Fund by 2023 to help them reach their goal of providing grants and services to 150,000 UK families with disabled and seriously ill children.

The grants enable families to purchase essential items critical to easing the strain of their day-to-day lives, such as kitchen appliances like fridges and ovens and technology such as tablets and computers.

The items allow families to spend more time together throughout the day, including mealtimes. The partnership comes as part of our ambition to make a difference to British families and communities across the country, with a particular focus on championing different types of families at mealtimes through our “We Are Family” campaign.

Family Fund is the UK’s largest charity providing grants for families on low incomes and since the start of our partnership with Family Fund, we're proud to share that our McCain grants have now helped over 200 families raising disabled or seriously ill children in the UK.

Kirsty Waite, whose daughter Heidi has Cerebral Palsy, told us how important the McCain pledge will be for those families that Family Fund helps. “Being a parent is the most special job in the world, but it’s certainly not without its challenges, particularly over the last year. The extra support that Family Fund has given to our family, such as providing an iPad to help my daughter Heidi, who has Cerebral Palsy, with her schoolwork, has been invaluable; it has freed-up time for my husband and me to focus on things that help us spend more quality time together, such as preparing family meals. The support McCain is giving Family Fund will make such a difference to other families like mine, where special family moments mean so much.”

Just as we’re proud to support the fantastic work Family Fund do on a national scale, we’re also passionate about celebrating those who support their local community.

Do you know someone who deserves to be thanked for their support? We’re now looking for heroes from our local community.

For the third year running, McCain is the main sponsor of the Scarborough News’ Scarborough Business Excellence Awards, which is taking place on December 2 at the Scarborough Spa in the Grand Hall. Familiar face, previous BBC Look North presenter, Harry Gration, will be returning to oversee proceedings.

This year will see a new category, the “Big Thank You Award”, to highlight the amazing efforts of key workers who have been inspiring in their efforts during the coronavirus crisis, as well as the “Community Hero Award” recognising the fantastic community efforts seen during the Covid-19 pandemic.

You don’t have to be a business to enter, anyone can nominate, so if you know someone who deserves recognition visit scarboroughbusinessawards.co.uk for more details.

It’s free to enter and the deadline for nominations this year is Friday, October 8.
