Meal deals pull them in at Marston’s

Pedigree and Hobgoblin brewer Marston’s toasted higher profits yesterday as special offers such as Two for One on food boosted sales at its pubs.

The Pitcher & Piano and Tavern Table firm said like-for-like sales in its pubs were 3.6 per cent higher in the six months to March 31, including a 3.9 per cent rise for food. The group said the growth in food sales was driven by volume and not price as promotions such as Two for One and its Milestone carvery proved popular.

Marston’s, which operates breweries in Wolverhampton, Burton-on-Trent, the Lake District, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, revealed a 15 per cent rise in underlying pre-tax profits to £33.5 m in the period.

Marston’s said sites which have been built since 2010 have an average turnover of £27,000 per week, ahead of its original target for £20,000.
