The film distribution group behind cult movie success Donnie Darko, yesterday confirmed talks to join forces with television counterpart Target Entertainment.

Metrodome is in negotiations over a merger deal with production house and distributor Target, known for children's shows and TV dramas, such as Foyle's War.

Metrodome has made a name for itself as an arthouse film distributor, handling Monster starring Charlize Theron, while more recent films include Fifty Dead Men Walking.

Potential merger partner Target Entertainment creates content as well as distributes, with a library of 6,000 hours of programmes such as children's favourites Flowertots and Fifi. Target, which has its headquarters in London, was founded in 1998 as a television programme distributor, but has expanded to become a full media rights management business.
