Mitie’s show of strength

MITIE, the outsourcing group with operations in Leeds, reported a 5.4 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £111.1m in the year to April.

The firm won a number of contracts including a new three to five-year, £37m-£61m contract to deliver multi-service facilities management for Ladbrokes’ national retail portfolio of 2,200 branches.

It also won a £775m five-year deal with Lloyds Banking Group, for facilities management of all its offices and branches.

In addition it won a new five-year £5m contract to provide cleaning and environmental services to East Hull Primary Care Trust.

The FTSE 250 company employs over 70,000 people across the UK and Europe and has more than 15,000 employees based in the North of England. The group, whose chief executive is Ruby Mcgregor-Smith, pictured, said that the headline results reflect strong revenue and earnings growth, with revenues up 8.4 per cent to £1,980.6m and operating profit before other items increasing by 8.3 per cent to £122.0m.
