MKM’s new branch to create 12 jobs

ONE of Britain’s biggest independent builders’ merchants has opened a new branch as part of its expansion programme, it was revealed yesterday.

Hull-based MKM has created 12 jobs by establishing a base in the Deal Business Park in Kent.

The company, which aims to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for customers seeking building, landscaping, plumbing and timber materials, was established by entrepreneurs David Kilburn and Peter Murray in 1995.

The company now has 38 branches spread across the UK.

Mr Kilburn, the chief executive of MKM, said yesterday: “We are delighted to be helping to create more jobs for local people.”

MKM was founded with five staff in a 5,000 sq ft shed in Hull.

Last year, the company revealed that it planned to create up to 200 jobs over the next 18 months.

At the time, Mr Kilburn said Scotland was an “area of opportunity” for MKM, which had traditionally been east coast-centric.

MKM has also launched MKM Online, an ecommerce store.
