Mobile Tornado sees rising interest in Push To Talk

LOSSES have almost halved at telecoms firm Mobile Tornado, which believes market trends are moving towards its technology.

The Harrogate-based company has developed a patented, internet-based Push To Talk technology, which allows businesses to communicate without relying on mobile phones.

In the six months to June 30, pre-tax losses dropped to £688,000 – down from £1.2m in the same period last year. Turnover rose 43 per cent to £885,000 and the company said it had sufficient working capital for the foreseeable future given its contracted revenue, anticipated contracts and continued support from its main shareholder, InTechnology.

Mobile Tornado said there is increasing global interest in its products.

The group is teaming up with mobile software group Crimson Tide to push sales of Mobile Tornado’s Instant Talk mobile application. Mobile Tornado’s applications will give Crimson Tide’s subscribers the ability to talk directly to their head office, to co-workers or to dispatchers immediately.

The two companies believe that there may also be opportunities for Mobile Tornado to introduce the Crimson Tide workforce management application to some of its international partners.

Crimson Tide supplies Mobile Apps for business including a smartphone, software and all services on a monthly subscription basis.

Subscribers range from blue chip companies to small enterprises and Government institu- tions.

Mobile Tornado is expanding worldwide following recent contract wins.

In May, it won a contract with a major Israeli mobile operator and in January it signed an exclusive agreement with NECO, a supplier of emergency, safety and security products, to deliver Push to Talk mobile communication services in South Africa.

Mobile Tornado’s chairman Peter Wilkinson said: “It is very pleasing to report another six months of solid progress across the business.

“We are seeing an increasing interest in our proposition from businesses around the world, but it is extremely gratifying to see this interest converting to sales and cashflow.

“The deals we concluded during the period demonstrate the strength of our proposition in the global market and the multiple channels through which it is being deployed.”

He added that the one feature businesses are demanding is a more effective way to communicate than the traditional phone.

“Alongside a desire to converge all applications onto one device, we are therefore seeing increasing demand for the Instant Talk application that sits at the core of our proposition.”
