Mobile Tornado teams up with Swedish firm to share technology

TELECOMS firm Mobile Tornado has joined forces with Swedish group PocketMobile to share communication technology.

The Harrogate-based company said its internet-based Push To Talk (PTT) technology, which is used by businesses to communicate without relying on mobile phones, will be integrated into PocketMobile’s PreCom communications system.

The joint venture has already won a contract with security group G4S in Denmark and Sweden, for use by 550 security staff. PreCom is used by companies which often have their own vehicle fleets and a high percentage of mobile employees, such as truck drivers, security guards, service technicians and home health carers.

Several large and medium-sized companies already use PreCom for mobile communication including Schenker, BTF, Ragn-Sells, Munters, Fortum, General Electric and G4S. Mobile Tornado, which is 13 per cent owned by technology entrepreneur Peter Wilkinson, claims its PTT technology allows organisations to communicate with staff more efficiently and cost-effectively than when using conventional mobile services and private mobile radio solutions. It uses patented Internet Protocol Radio Service (IPRS) technology to offer ‘always-on’ communication.

“PocketMobile has a strong reputation for developing tailored mobile solutions that make a tangible difference to their customers’ businesses,” said Jeremy Fenn, managing director of Mobile Tornado. “By incorporating PTT into their mobile applications, PocketMobile’s customers will enjoy a range of benefits associated with PTT services.”
