More big names get on Plaza bandwagon

High street leisure brands Nando’s, TGI Friday’s and Pure Gym are the latest names to commit to a £40m West Yorkshire development scheme.

The tenants will move into Broad Street Plaza in Halifax town centre, which is now 95 per cent let ahead of completion in late May. Other names in the scheme include Vue Cinema, Frankie and Benny’s, The Chinese Buffet, Wetherspoons, Harvester, Pizza Express, Premier Inn, Calderdale Metro and the NHS.

The project by Gregory Projects, part of Leeds-based Gregory Property Group, gained financial backing from Yorkshire Forward and Santander.

Nick Ferris, director at letting agent Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “The success of the scheme has enabled it to soak up pent-up demand from restaurant operators for high-quality space in the region and bring them to Halifax. We’ve been able to attract many national restaurant outlets because operators like to be next to one another to benefit from critical mass and, in this case, to share the benefits of footfall generated by the multiplex cinema.

“Halifax was not previously on the Pizza Express target list but the success of Broad Street Plaza means that the company feels that it must have a presence there. The fact that we have been able to secure rents well above £20 per sq ft for these lettings reinforces the success of the scheme.”
