Motor group's £5m move

MOTOR group Stoneacre is hoping to kickstart a £20m development after relocating its headquarters to a former Dixon Motors site.

The company has bought a modern office block at Capitol Park Thorne in Doncaster off an asking price of about 5m.

It marks the first stage of a rejuvenation project for the 13-acre site that will eventually see offices, industrial units, and perhaps even a hotel and major retailer built there.

Christopher Fordy, associate partner at estate agency Strutt & Parker, said: "Stoneacre's decision to relocate its head office facilities to Capitol Park, Thorne is a significant boost for the town.

"We were always confident that this fabulous office building would ultimately attract a quality occupier, and thankfully it will now be put back into good use, and we are confident this facility and its excellent location will work well for Stoneacre."

Initially, around 60 Stoneacre staff will be based at the headquarters, which is just off junction 6 of the M18 motorway north-east of the city. However, it is anticipated more new jobs will be created.

Dixon Motors, whose headquarters was at Capitol Park Thorne, went into administration in August 2007 with the loss of 800 jobs across the UK.

The Capitol Park Thorne site is now owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland which has been working towards appointing a development partner for the remainder of the Thorne site.
