Mum's the word for businesswomen

A WOMEN'S business group is launching a new event that aims to make it easier for those with pre-school children to get into networking.

Crme de la Crme, in Harrogate, is run by Sarah Sanpher and Vicki Graham, who both have children themselves.

"I can remember how difficult it was to attend business events when the children were small," recalls Ms Sanpher, who took over the reins of the organisation in May.

"If they happen outside any existing childcare arrangements, it can be really difficult to take part. A lot of women we've spoken to say they'd love to come along to our meetings but just can't get one-off, reliable, affordable childcare."

So, on Monday, September 13, the duo will launch Crme Brunch, a monthly event in association with AJ's caf-bar and crche at The Academy Health & Fitness Club in Harrogate.

Between 11.30am-1.30pm, mothers and carers can focus on forging new business relationships over a bite to eat while children are looked after by qualified staff in the registered, on-site crche.

There will also be a guest speaker each month offering advice on everything from starting up to expanding a business.

"Crme is about supporting all women in business, and as working mums ourselves, we know the importance of finding the right balance – and how difficult it can be," says Sarah.

"There are women with young children running amazing ventures – but they don't get the chance to grow them properly because it's so hard to find time to get out there and network. We're aiming to change that."

The pair also plan to take Crme de la Crme to women in York and Wetherby over the next few months. As well as the regular lunch and evening events, Crme Brunch will be part of the expansion.

Places must be pre-booked for both the brunch and childcare. Non-members can attend for the special guest price of 18, plus 10 for each crche place.
