NDL’s mobile software helping the public sector to cut costs

A YORKSHIRE-based software firm is doing its bit to improve communication at the Ministry of Defence.

Wetherby-based NDL, which provides the public sector with mobile working technology, saw its revenues rise by 40 per cent in 2011 to £3.8m, despite the harsh economic climate.

The company, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, helps local councils, NHS Trusts and housing authorities to raise their game.

NDL’s managing director Declan Grogan said yesterday: “The public sector is under tremendous pressure to reduce costs and provide a high quality, efficient service to taxpayers. Our software is helping them do this.”

NDL’s software allows its clients to integrate back-office systems and maximise the benefits of mobile working.

NDL enables staff working outside the office to use smartphones and tablet computers to update and access information held on back-office systems, which saves time and money.

Mr Grogan added: “We’re seeing huge demand for these products.

“We’ve had 15 new contracts agreed in the last two months. We also have more than £2.5m of forward orders on our books including a four-year contract with the Ministry of Defence.

“To keep up with demand we’ve expanded our team by 45 per cent to 42 and have another eight vacancies.

“We’ve also boosted our geographical presence with a regional office in Leatherhead, Surrey, although our main offices remain in Yorkshire.

“The financial climate has meant we’re seeing more and more public bodies looking to integrate their existing back office systems, rather than strip them out and start again.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve developed and delivered new versions of both our desktop and server integration platforms to ensure we can continue to service these needs.”

The NDL Group has set up a subsidiary company, Care in Motion. The new company has recently launched a mobile application with Orange for community and district nurses.
