New jobs for motor firm’s showpiece

A YORKSHIRE-based motor group yesterday revealed that it plans to create 25 jobs by building a new showroom and headquarters.

Harratts, which operates 14 dealerships across Yorkshire, is investing £3m in its new HQ at Calder Park in Wakefield.

The company will be moving from its current head office in Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, later this year.

Work is due to start on the Honda dealership and headquarters at Calder Park this month.

It will be the largest construction project in the company’s 45-year history.

Harratts, which has 333 staff and a turnover of £175m, has continued to grow despite the uncertainty caused by the public sector spending cuts. It is the second largest seller of Volvo cars in the UK.

Shaun Harratt, the managing director of Harratts, said: “Today’s announcement represents the most significant construction project in our history and a very exciting time for us as we continue our expansion.

“We are delighted to be able to create 25 jobs.

“It will also serve to support our continued growth in the region.”

The family-run firm was founded in 1966 when Derek and Stella Harratt started a motor business in Ossett, West Yorkshire.

It has expanded in recent years by buying and selling a number of dealerships in West and South Yorkshire.
