New jobs in pipeline as MTL moves to new HQ

CONTRACT manufacturing specialist MTL Group is to create 50 jobs after moving to new premises in South Yorkshire.

The business, which employs more than 250 staff, has more than doubled in size following a management buyout in 2006 and is now relocating from its current premises to a new 300,000sq ft advanced manufacturing facility in Rotherham, which will provide space for continued expansion.

MTL Group, which laser cuts, bends, machines and fabricates steel, supplies customers including BAE, Caterpillar, Babcock and Renault Truck Defence.

High profile projects include the supply of armoured steel for increasing protection on British Army vehicles in Afghanistan and key structural components for offshore windfarms.

The relocation follows MTL Group's 6m investment in the latest manufacturing technology including a 640-tonne robot press, the biggest of its kind in the world. The company is to invest more than 5m to create a high-efficiency, low-energy facility. Managing director Dr Henry Shirman said: "The strategic investment in the new site will see MTL more than double in size and enable us to deliver a greater range of services to our customers."

Yorkshire Forward is supporting MTL Group with its relocation with a contributory grant in recognition of its job creation.

The move was brokered by property consultancy King Sturge and GVA Grimley on behalf of the owner fund manager Threadneedle Property Investments.
