New president for butchers’ confederation

STEVE Martin, owner of Bentley’s butchers in Pudsey, has been appointed president of the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers’ Councils.

Mr Martin takes over from fellow Leeds butcher, Andrew Green of Crossgates. With around 400 members, the confederation is a sub-section of the National Federation of Meat Traders. It oversees the professionalism and quality standards of independent high street butchers and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

As president, Mr Martin’s role will be to promote the confederation’s role and be involved in fact-finding to ensure that high quality standards are maintained.

Mr Martin said: “We pride ourselves on being able to deliver from field to fork, with provenance and traceability guaranteed throughout every step of the supply process.”
