New unit will make life-saving drugs

LIFE-saving drugs are being produced at a new medical facility in Yorkshire.

Healthcare company B Braun Medical's 1,080 sq metre Aseptic Unit at its Thorncliffe Park headquarters, in Sheffield, includes equipment to manufacture medication for hospitals around the country.

The unit has delivered its first batches of ready-to-administer nutrition feeding systems to the University College Hospital in London.

The unit has three production rooms, cold stores, a laboratory and office facilities for a team of pharmacists, technicians, management and administration staff.

Roger Brookes, Aseptic Services Manager for B Braun said the facility can make sophisticated medicines for the NHS.

More complex medicines, including antibiotics and cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs, will also be produced at the facility.
