Nuts firm wins £1m deal for pistachios with major retailer

NUTS and dried fruit specialist Zeina Foods has won a £1m order with a major retailer.

The firm, based in Ossett, Wakefield, said however that it could not identify the national retail chain for contractual reasons.

Zeina, which turned over 12m last year, said it is to supply the client with more than 250 tonnes of salted pistachios, which will be available under the retailer's own brand name in its superstores.

Zeina, which supplies pistachios, dates and flavoured nuts, has been working with blue chip companies for a quarter of a century.

Its nuts come in various forms including jumbo-sized, plain and varieties seasoned with chilli, lemon, cracked black pepper and salt.

Many of its clients are wholesalers and cash and carry outlets and the firm says its ability to get products to market quickly has helped it to be successful.

Zeina can process about eight tonnes of nuts a day and its bulk supply products include tree nuts, seeds, dried fruits and Middle Eastern specialist confectionery including baklava.

The family firm was set up in 1983. Its branded products are listed in major food retailers, convenience and deli stores, health food chains and wholesalers in Britain, Ireland and abroad. It also manufactures private label brands for both domestic and overseas markets. The firm also offers hampers through its online shop and sells some of its nuts and dried fruits in re-sealable cans, which were designed to be used in cars or taken in briefcases.
