Official stamp of approval for beating crime

EVERY home owner dreads the thought of being targeted by burglars.

A Yorkshire firm is helping its customers to sleep a little easier at night.

Hull-based home improvement firm EYG has achieved Secured By Design accreditation – the police and Home Office-backed initiative to stamp out crime.

EYG’s domestic and commercial windows are now SBD-certified. The SBD scheme is the official UK Police flagship initiative which encourages the building industry to adopt crime prevention measures in the design, layout and construction of homes and commercial premises.

Run by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the scheme aims to encourage the adoption of security products and crime prevention projects.

Nick Ward, EYG’s joint managing director, said the accreditation was a major achievement.

He added: “Secured By Design is a national initiative to recognise products that carry the highest safety specifications. EYG has been working towards this for some months.”

EYG, a family-run firm that has been trading for 43 years, is based on Hull’s Wiltshire Road.

It employs around 350 people, and has an annual turnover of around £20m.

Michael Brookes, development Officer for Secured By Design, said the accreditation showed that EYG’s products had crime prevention in mind.
