Old bookshop to have that cutting edge

A START-UP business is breathing new life into an old bookshop situated in one of Sheffield’s most historic areas.

The owners of Volt Salon, a unisex hair salon, have secured a lease on a grade II listed building close to the city’s cathedral. The East Parade premises, owned by the Diocese of Sheffield, have been transformed into the hairdressing salon following lease negotiations by law firm Taylor&Emmet.

Volt has been opened by Jenny Copley and Helen Porter, who both have more than 20 years’ experience in the hairdressing industry. Since securing the lease, the duo has worked to restore many of the property’s original features, while transforming the former bookshop into a modern salon.

Miss Porter said: “We are going to expand into beauty too. It will probably be up and running by the spring.” The salon currently counts haircuts, colours, perms and extensions among its services, but looks to incorporate beauty treatments such as waxing and tanning into the offering.
