Old Ilkley chapel going under the hammer at property auction

A DISUSED chapel in the heart of a cemetery is among the more unusual lots going under the hammer at a major auction in Yorkshire later this month.

The catalogue at Eddisons’ property auction also includes vacant public houses and former post offices, plus vacant and tenanted residential and commercial properties.

Guide prices for residential stock start from as little as £7,500.

Tony Webber, of Eddisons, said: “This catalogue is larger than average and includes a wide variety of commercial and residential stock.

“We believe guide prices have been set at levels which reflect current market conditions and will prove attractive to buyers.”

Among the likely highlights is a former church building in Ilkley.

The South Chapel is a vacant Grade II listed building, in Ashlands Cemetery.

The property is being offered with planning consent for internal and external alterations, to create office accommodation or a design studio. The guide price is £120,000 plus.

A tenanted takeaway restaurant, plus a nine-bedroom hotel in Selby, is being offered at a guide price of £315,000 to £325,000.

The Waterfront Hotel, on Ousegate, has planning consent for conversion into flats.

The next two-day property sale takes place on June 16 at Leeds United Football Club, Elland Road, Leeds, and on June 21 at the Premier Inn, Trafford Park, Manchester.

Both sales start at 12.30pm.
