Olympic mission for companies

The chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority is set to meet Yorkshire firms which have won contracts for the 2012 Games when he visits the region tomorrow.

John Armitt's site visits will follow a conference in the morning at Leeds Town Hall, organised by Yorkshire Gold Business Club, where businesses will be given advice about preparing bids for London 2012.

More than 90 companies in Yorkshire and Humber have already secured contracts to deliver goods, services and skills to the Games and there are still 1bn of contracts to be won.

Yorkshire firms Lytag and Marshalls, both of whom will host Mr Armitt, are among those which have been successful.

Lytag, from Escrick, near York, supplied the main contractor for the Aquatics Centre with 700 tonnes of LYTAG lightweight aggregate. Marshalls, of Halifax, supplied paving, drainage and street furniture products to the athletes' village, the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Park and concourse.
