Olympics on view to high-rise residents

Sheffield-based Rostek-UK has created a monorail system that carries two powered cradles around the perimeter of Pioneer Point, which will soon tower above the Ilford skyline.

The cradles can carry two people, who will be responsible for cleaning Pioneer Point’s windows and facades.

The 33 and 25-storey residential towers stand 113.3m and 91.3m high and, when complete, will give residents spectacular views across the City, Canary Wharf and the Olympic Stadium.

The £200,000 contract was awarded by the project’s main contractors, London and Regent Construction.

The monorail system has been designed to negotiate tight bends and a vertical section.

Two of Rostek’s self-hoisting cradles will run alongside the monorail.

Rostek-UK, which employs 20 staff, has also developed an abseil system that enables rope technicians to have access to the roof so they can maintain the monorail brackets.
