York-based OptiBiotix said the deal is with Evolution_18, a US-based company founded by makeup artist Bobbi Brown.

OptiBiotix recently launched Gummies, treats which taste like Haribo, but are high in fibre and fruit.

A serving of Gummies provides 40 per cent of the recommended daily intake of fibre to support gut health, alongside chromium to help maintain blood sugar levels, and glucomannan to help people feel fuller for longer. They have no added sugar or sweeteners and they are high in fruit.

Ms Brown has become a certified health coach and has launched her wellness brand, Evolution_18, which lists its products at 3,000 Walmart stores. Walmart is the US retail giant that owns Asda.

Dr Fred Narbel, managing director of OptiBiotix’s prebiotics division, said: “We are very pleased to announce this new commercial launch in the US.

”The partnership with Evolution_18 allows us to collaborate with a brand that is distributed in more than 3,000 Walmart stores in the US and also further increase awareness of the SlimBiome brand.

“This agreement builds on the recently announced launch of SlimBiome containing products in the UK with Holland & Barrett.”

Dr Narbel said the agreement with Evolution_18 demonstrates the firm’s ability to negotiate deals with increasingly large partners around the world.
