MEPC, the national property investor and developer, organised the 50-mile ride through God’s Own Country for members of the Yorkshire business community.

Chief executive Rick de Blaby (above, third right) told media partner the Yorkshire Post: “We could not have imagined that the Wellington Place Sportive would be so well supported and enjoyed.

“Everyone is asking whether we’ll do the same next year so it would be rude not to.

“It is nice that everyone chipped in to support the Leeds Community Foundation too.

“The setting and scenery of the whole ride was simply stunning; the good people of Yorkshire are blessed with the best cycling roads in Britain I reckon. Certainly the steepest.”

The challenging route started at Threshfield and took in Kettlewell, Arncliffe, Halton Gill, Malham, Hetton, Linton and Grassington.

First in was Bruce Rollinson, the Yorkshire Post photographer (main image above right), who completed the route in 2hr 14min.

Business Editor Bernard Ginns managed 3hr 31min, a slower time because he “needed to get some colour”.
