Photo mystery of the Timothy Taylor worker

TAKEN on or around 1930, this is the earliest known photograph of a Timothy Taylor dray lorry. The question is, who is the moustachioed man standing on the right?

The man on the left is Harry Green, a driver who went on to run a number of pubs in the Oakworth area. The picture was provided by Lucy Adams, his great niece.

Timothy Taylor, based in Keighley, is appealing for any readers to get in touch if they can help identify the second man.

The lorry replaced the horse-drawn dray over the 1930s, although a few may have remained in service during the Second World War.

This particular vehicle was made by Karrier Motors Ltd, a Huddersfield vehicle manufacturer. The Rootes Group bought the company in 1934 and closed its Yorkshire operations.

Rootes was eventually bought out by Chrysler.

Timothy Taylor founded the brewery in 1858 and it remains in family ownership to this day. Its beers include Ram Tam, Golden Best, Best Bitter and the famous Landlord.

The company recently opened its new transport and warehousing depot, which is vital to its long-term future in the area.

Modern, refrigerated and articulated dray lorries leave the depot every day with beer bound for all corners of the United Kingdom.

Charles Dent, the managing director, said yesterday: "They haven't missed delivering a drop in all this bad weather."
