Plan for 1,200 new homes on colliery site

Harworth Estates, the UK property regeneration company, has announced plans to remediate the former Rossington Colliery pit yard near Doncaster to develop 1,200 new homes on the site.

Barnsley-based VHE Construction has been appointed by Harworth to undertake the work.

The aggregate extracted is to be used in the construction of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) that begins this week.

Carillion has been appointed as the contractor for FARRRS.

FARRRS, a key Doncaster Council-led regeneration project, will link Junction 3 of the M18 with Robin Hood Airport and provide the necessary road infrastructure to open up new land for employment and housing.

In addition to the 1,200 homes on the former colliery site, FARRRS will support the growth and expansion of sites at Robin Hood Airport by the Peel Group and the building of a rail freight interchange, iPort, by Verdion.

The programme is set to transform Doncaster, generating thousands of new jobs and homes, in addition to cutting journey times and easing congestion for those travelling to the south of Doncaster.

The £56m link road is set to create thousands of new jobs and homes in the borough.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “FARRRS is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK and will deliver a raft of economic benefits for the borough and the Sheffield City Region.

“This transformational scheme will be a catalyst for unprecedented growth in and around the airport and in Rossington itself.

“Regeneration on this scale is rare and all our public and private sector partners deserve tremendous credit for making this long-held ambition for a new link road a reality.”
