Kirklees Council’s planning committee gave planning permission for the second phase of Moor Park 25, located close to junction 25 of the M62 during a remote committee meeting, held online as part of steps to allow officials to keep the planning system moving during the COVID-19 outbreak,

The 15.4-acre site in Mirfield has been earmarked for commercial development for a number of years with the first phase recently completed, and a lease signed, on a new 72,400 sq ft distribution unit. The details for Phase 2 include five further industrial buildings, totalling 180,000 sq ft ranging from 19,500 sq ft to 59,000 sq ft. Outline approval for this phase was granted in 2014.

The site has been identified as one of 10 Enterprise Zones within the Leeds City Region area by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, to help drive economic growth, meaning that a reduction in business rates and business support packages are available.

Major road improvements, including significant improvements to a junction from the A62, along with infrastructure work have already taken place with the completion of phase one, totalling a £3m investment.

Myles Hartley, managing director of the scheme's developer, Caddick Developments, said: “Following the successful completion of phase one, there has been strong interest in the remainder of the site and we are very close to signing up two local businesses who want to expand, which will provide a tremendous boost for the local economy.

“With major road improvement and infrastructure already in place, this is truly an ‘oven ready’ project that can be delivered quickly and we will look to progress phase two as soon as possible.”

It has been estimated that the development will create up to 400 new jobs when complete, along with 85 full time-equivalent jobs during construction. Once finished, Moor Park 25 will contribute a GVA of over £12.5m to the local economy, with £1.2m added during construction.
