Ports operator strikes deal to boost UK exports

Associated British Ports has struck a deal with Wakefield Council to help small and medium-sized businesses access international markets and raise the profile of the Humber in the so-called Northern Powerhouse.

She said: “Our aim is to see the value of exports coming out of our area increase by 15 per cent over the next two years and by working with ABP and UKTI we are confident this can be achieved.”

Britain is struggling to rebalance its economy away from consumer spending towards exports.

John Fitzgerald, port director at Humber, said: “There are ships with trailers going empty that could be full.”
