Property consultancy stays in profit despite fall in turnover

COMMERCIAL property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall said its turnover fell in 2009 as difficult market conditions continued.

The company, which has an office in Leeds, said turnover fell to 14m for the year to April 30, compared with 17m the year before.

Profit was also down, although the firm insisted it remained profitable.

The company, which employs 90 people in Leeds, works with clients including the Co-op, British Rail Residuary Board, Town Centre Securities and Magnet.

Mark Swiers, chairman of Sanderson Weatherall, said its diverse offering and a cautious approach to expenditure meant it had survived better than most during the economic downturn.

He said: "We saw the warning signs early and trimmed our costs accordingly. We also have a strong professional side which makes us less vulnerable to the downturn than pure agency-based operators. While overall turnover was down, we are pleased that we have remained profitable."

Collectively, Sanderson Weatherall employs nearly 200 people across its offices in Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle. It also has offices in London and Birmingham.
