Property sector’s charity tales from the Crypt

PROFESSIONALS from Yorkshire’s property industry will reveal their hidden talents at Yorkshire’s version of the hit ITV show X Factor.

The date has now been confirmed for the Crypt Factor, which will see Yorkshire’s property professionals come together for the seventh time to raise money for local charities LionHeart and St George’s Crypt.

Addleshaw Goddard, Town Centre Securities and Morgans City Living are sponsoring the event at Elland Road on March 21. The Yorkshire Post is media partner.

This year’s event raised a net figure of £32,700 for the charities, making it one of the most successful charitable events in the region’s calendar.

Eight acts took part, performing songs by Jessie J and Stevie Wonder, with the Tourists – featuring professionals from Nieman Architects, ID Planning, Santander and the Kier Group – winning the top prize for their version of Take That’s The Flood.

Paula Dillon, partner at Addleshaw Goddard, said: “Tables are already selling for the next Crypt Factor as the region’s property industry joins forces to support these two very deserving charities.

“St George’s Crypt has been working with homeless and disadvantaged people in Leeds for 80 years and LionHeart is the charity for RICS members and their families in need.

“Both do essential work and we’re delighted to be supporting them for the seventh year running in what could be our biggest and best event to date.”

Jonathan Morgan, managing director of Morgans, added: “The Crypt Factor is a reminder of the spirit and generosity of the property community in Yorkshire and has grown in popularity each year.

“For 2013 we’re aiming to sell 600 tickets which will ensure that our brave singing acts get the rapturous support they need.

“The event has become one of the highest netting charity fundraisers in Leeds and we look forward to making The Crypt Factor 2013 the most successful yet.”

St George’s Crypt is a charity based underneath the thriving church of St George’s in Leeds.

Martin Patterson, fundraising director at St George’s Crypt, said: “We have been the frontline of support for homeless, disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Leeds and its surrounding areas since 1930.

“We never know who will turn up at our door but more often than not its people who have found themselves in difficult situations through no fault of their own.

“Our whole ethos is about providing unconditional support to all those that come to us and the Crypt Factor makes a huge difference to the level of help that we can provide.

“Knowing that we have the continued support of the region’s property industry behind us also means a lot to the charity as a whole as well as the people that we’re here to help.”

LionHeart offers all types of help and support to RICS members and their families who face problems in their lives that are often completely unexpected.

These can include ill health, disability, unemployment, family separation and debt related issues.

Christine Wall, head of marketing and fundraising at LionHeart, said: “One recent and deserving beneficiary is a well-known valuation and estates surveyor who suffered a serious stroke and is now unable to move or speak.

“He’s had to move to a specialist care home, but thanks to our generous donors we have been able offer support and financial help to him and his family as they come to terms with this unexpected and life-changing event.

“In order to carry out this work we’re completely dependent on donations from RICS members and firms in the property industry.

“The Crypt Factor epitomises this generosity which makes it one of the key fundraising events in our annual calendar.”

Tables of 10 at the Crypt Factor are £1,000 plus VAT and can be reserved now by emailing [email protected] or by calling 0113 209 2397.
