PwC defies downturn to take on 40 graduates

PROFESSIONAL services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) yesterday revealed that it had hired 40 graduates to work across its offices in Leeds, Hull and Sheffield.

The graduates will work in the firm's assurance, business recovery, forensic, risk assurance, public sector, and tax departments.

Steve Denison, the Leeds-based northern chairman at PwC, said:"PwC believes in fostering and retaining the region's graduates and supporting the local community. This will help to further strengthen our practice and our local expertise, which in turn benefits our clients."

Arif Ahmad, graduate recruitment partner at PwC in Yorkshire, said: "Through the recession, we have held our graduate intake numbers at the pre-recessionary levels to support our investment in the future and at the end of the Association of Chartered Accountants training programme, all our staff have been offered permanent positions.

"We have an excellent retention rate of our Yorkshire graduates and following qualification, have detailed conversations with individuals to discuss their plans and ensure their career expectations are met. This could be through secondments to other departments, overseas or to clients. This helps to retain our brightest and best people."

PwC's Yorkshire and Humber practice has 76 partners and directors and almost 800 staff across its Leeds, Hull and Sheffield offices.
