Record breaker to speak at region’s IOD director awards

LAND speed world record holder Richard Noble has been confirmed as the headline speaker at the Yorkshire IoD’s Director of the Year Awards (DOTYA).

This year, York’s National Railway Museum (NRM) will be the venue for the event, which aims to showcase the depth of business talent from around the region. Previous winners have included Graeme Honeyman of Sheffield’s Forgemasters and Lawrence Tomlinson, founder of the multi-million pound LNT organisation.

Regional director of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Kenton Robbins said he hoped the move would open it up to a more diverse and representative audience than in previous years when it was held in Leeds. There are plans to take the awards to other parts of Yorkshire in future years.

“Leeds has provided Yorkshire IoD with a great home for DOTYA so far but we want to make it more inclusive and encourage more of the region’s entrepreneurs to compete,” he said. “We know there are top class business leaders in all parts of Yorkshire and I hope that by moving to York this year we can showcase both them, their businesses and the supreme locations that can host this popular business event,” he added.

“The Yorkshire IoD Director of the Year Awards celebrate the very best in Yorkshire business. It continues to be a challenging time for businesses, which is why success and achievement need to be recognised and celebrated. Winning these awards demonstrate that you have been recognised as being at the top of your game by your peers and by the UK’s premier business lobbying group.”

The deadline for nominations is June 15 with judging taking place in July in time for the ceremony on September 4.

The categories are: Director of the Year Award (large company); Director of the Year Award (small & medium company); Young Director of the Year; Global Director of the Year; Public Sector/Third Sector Director of the Year Award; Family Business Director of the Year Award; Director of the Year Award for Leadership in Corporate Responsibility; Non-Executive Director of the Year; and The Lifetime Achievement Award.

The awards are co-sponsored by Leeds Met University Business School.
