Region’s fastest moving companies unveiled

THE Yorkshire Post today salutes the dynamic companies who have defied the worst economic slump in decades to bring jobs and investment to our region.

We reveal the businesses who have made it into the Yorkshire Fastest 50 2012, the most comprehensive list of the region’s fastest-growing businesses.

Sponsored by Top 100 UK law firm Ward Hadaway and backed by the Yorkshire Post, the list highlights and celebrates companies and organisations in the region showing the strongest growth.

The list acts as a way of rewarding high achieving companies and encouraging others.

The Yorkshire Fastest 50 2012 contains businesses from a wide range of sectors. In the list, you will find fashion and food industry companies, alongside engineers and IT experts.

It has been compiled in association with law firm Ward Hadaway, which has seen strong growth since setting up its Yorkshire operation in Leeds in summer 2008.

Martin Hulls, senior office partner at Ward Hadaway Leeds, said yesterday: “We wanted the Yorkshire Fastest 50 to be a celebration of achievement by companies from right across the region and we think it has delivered exactly that.

“It has also hopefully provided a fascinating snapshot of the region’s economy and the sheer variety of businesses which call Yorkshire home.”

Ward Hadaway managing partner, Jamie Martin, added: “All the businesses listed here are forging ahead and seeing their turnover grow – they are real trailblazers who deserve our support, encouragement and our congratulations.”

Following today’s publication of the Yorkshire Fastest 50, an awards ceremony will take place at Aspire in Leeds on Friday March 16, when the winners of the Yorkshire Fastest 50 2012 will

be revealed. Awards will be given to the fastest growing small, medium and large business, as well as an overall award for the fastest growing business of the year.

Research carried out by Bradford University School of Management has been used to put together the Yorkshire Fastest 50 2012.

Figures from a company’s previous three years of accounts are analysed and an average annual growth figure produced for each of the businesses.

To be eligible, companies need to be privately owned rather than plcs.

They must have an annual turnover of at least £1m and have made a profit for each of the previous three years.

Peter Charlton, Editor of the Yorkshire Post, said: “The Yorkshire Fastest 50 is an excellent opportunity to put the region’s business growth on the map and to celebrate all that is best about Yorkshire’s companies.

“It is vital for the region’s supporters like the Yorkshire Post to trumpet Yorkshire’s successes to the wider world and spread the word about our resilience and capabilities.

“This is exactly what the 2011 Fastest 50 Awards achieved so we are delighted to be teaming up again with Ward Hadaway for the 2012 awards.

“We look forward to the results with great anticipation.”

Ward Hadaway, which also has offices in Newcastle and Manchester, has been running a similar awards scheme for companies in the North East of England every year since 1998.

One of the oldest companies to appear on the list is John Good & Sons from Hull, which was founded in 1883 and ranks among the largest independent ship agency companies in the UK.

By contrast, Boost Drinks from Leeds, was established just over 10 years ago, and sells its products in 12 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana and Afghanistan.
