Restaurant group's 'gamble' pays off

Restaurant group Chaophraya is planning a £500,000 refurbishment to its Yorkshire branch after agreeing a new £2.5m funding package.

The Thai bar and restaurant firm is to increase the number of covers from 130 to 200 at its Leeds base, which opened in 2004. The extension will also include a private VIP dining area. Work will begin shortly.

Russell Turner, from Yorkshire accountants Garbutt & Elliott, and Simon Bartle, of Barclays in Leeds, helped Chaophraya agree the funding.

Chaophraya has now opened in Manchester and Liverpool. Martin Stead, the owner and managing director, said: "They have been tremendously successful, with the Liverpool football team holding their Christmas dinner there."

Opening more restaurants during the recession was a "gamble which has paid off", he added.

Mr Turner, managing director of Garbutt & Elliott, said:"Martin has developed a business model that is based on quality, attention to detail and focuses on maximising customer experience."
