A return to splendour

THE external restoration of a landmark building, which is being turned into a leisure and retail destination, is nearing completion.

Work at The Majestic building, which was most recently known as Majestyk Nightclub, in City Square, Leeds, includes new ground floor windows and a roof terrace.

This first phase of work is due to complete at the end of April.

Richard Baker, of developer Rushbond, said: “The building has so much soul, with generations of people in Leeds having their own memories of it either as a nightclub, cinema, ballroom, bingo hall or cafe, which is why we have made it our priority to remain true to the original design whilst enhancing what the building has to offer.”

Rushbond will also erect new canopies above the entrances and reinstate statues and urns that have been in place since the 1920s.
