Ringing in the changes at The Square

DEVELOPER Carillion has unveiled a masterplan for the third phase of The Square in Sheffield.

The company has released images of what the site, which has outline planning consent for up to 150,000 sq ft of new office space, could look like once occupiers sign up to the scheme, which is in the Castlegate area of the city.

Carillion said the site could either accommodate a single, stand-alone building of more thann 100,000 sq ft or smaller buildings from 30,000 sq ft.

The company will also consider the development of leisure or retail accommodation.

Phases one and two of The Square, which occupies the Sheffield gateway site at the head of the A57 Parkway, incorporate a 42,000sq ft office building, which is home to Carillion's National Support Centre, an additional 43,000 sq ft office building, which is occupied by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, and a 114-bed Travelodge Hotel plus 400 space Q-Park.

Neil McMillan, development director, said: "We have revisited our existing planning permission to develop the masterplan with the aim of communicating the flexibility we have at The Square to deliver bespoke buildings, tailored for individual occupier requirements.

"With the first two phases fully operational, the scheme has demonstrated its success as a commercial destination and we are keen to maximise the full potential of this strategically positioned site to deliver further high quality accommodation to aid the long-term regeneration objectives of the city."
