The road and rail problems that you need to know about in Yorkshire this Christmas

Many people will be travelling around the region to meet up with family and friends this Christmas - and the last thing you will want is unpleasant surprises while getting there.

Here we have put together a guide to some changes to look out for, using information from National Rail Enquiries and Highways England. You can contribute your own observations regarding any further changes, on your travels, by commenting below or interacting on social media.

Hull Trains

Christmas Eve: Operating a reduced timetable - 15.10 Hull-King’s Cross will be the last southbound train, 18.50 King’s Cross-Hull will be the last northbound train.

Christmas Eve: journeys at 14.33 from Bradford to London Kings Cross and at 19.52 from London Kings Cross to Bradford will not operate. Normal service on all other trains until 19.00 when services will gradually reduce with no services after 22.00.

First TransPennine Express

December 22 to 24: Overnight engineering work is taking place between Huddersfield and Leeds with the following trains amended - Tuesday to Thursday: The 23:15 Manchester Airport to York service will not call at Dewsbury and will depart from Leeds later than normal. A replacement bus will run from Huddersfield to Dewsbury, connecting off the train. Tuesday to Thursday: The 01:38 and 02:52 York to Manchester Airport services will be retimed to depart from Huddersfield later than normal. The 05:21 York to Manchester Airport service will not call at Dewsbury. A replacement bus will run from Dewsbury to Huddersfield to connect into the train. The bus will depart from Dewsbury at 06:05. The 04:22 Manchester Airport to Newcastle service will be retimed to depart from Huddersfield earlier than normal.

Northern Rail

December 22 to 24: Tuesday to Wednesday: The 22:47 Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly service will not call at Stockport. A bus will be provided from Chinley to Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Stockport.

HIGHWAYS ENGLAND

Highways England aims to complete or lift 148 schemes by 6am Wednesday 23 December – leaving 98% of its 9,534-mile network free of roadworks in time for the holidays. (Click here to see a map showing the locations of lifted and completed schemes)

In Yorkshire and the North East, they will be lifting seven sets of roadworks, have completed 17 sets and have nine sets of roadworks remaining for Christmas and the New Year.
