Ruby waxes lyrical over the power of communication

COMEDIAN Ruby Wax entertained over 150 businesswomen yesterday as part of celebrations to mark International Women's Day.

Ms Wax, who has swapped outrageous celebrity interviews for a new career organising communication workshops in recent years, spoke about the powerful role that communication plays in building successful businesses.

Ms Wax, famed for her interviews with celebrities including Imelda Marcos, Donald Trump and Pamela Anderson, changed direction after completing a Masters in psychotherapy and a course in neuroscience at University College of London.

She now runs management workshops for business leaders to help them communicate more effectively with their clients and colleagues.

Speaking at the event held at the Met Hotel in Leeds, organised by women's networking organisation Forward Ladies, Ms Wax said: "We can all talk at each other but rapport means reading under the radar, below the words, to understand what people really mean and being transparent enough for them to understand you."

Other speakers at the event, which was sponsored by Business Link and The Met Hotel, included motivational speaker Tee Dobinson and Sophi Tranchell, managing director of fair trade chocolate company, Divine.

Ms Tranchell shared with the audience her belief that 'what you buy can make the world a better place', her passion for her job and how she got where she is today.
