Sales and exports soar for cleaning product firm Bio-D

HULL-based Bio-D has recorded what it described as 'unprecedented' sales at the end of its financial year, with export sales up by 68 per cent, and sales through its own website increasing by 22 per cent across the last twelve months.

The company, the UK’s biggest independent producer of eco-friendly home cleaning products and based in the Sutton Fields area of the city, has expanded its 16-strong team by a third and increased its production facility in recent months, in order to cope with demand for its hypoallergenic, vegan product range of more than 20 product lines, including laundry liquid and furniture polish.

Demand for the range from overseas, from countries including Norway, China and Singapore, has risen sharply, as customers worldwide seek alternatives to ‘traditional’ home cleaning products that often contain synthetic chemicals, preservatives, enzymes and synthetic perfumes.

The company currently exports to 20 countries and expects to expand into additional markets over the next 12 months, despite general uncertainty regarding UK exporting in the ‘Brexit’ aftermath.

Lloyd Atkin, Managing Director, Bio-D acknowledged the Brexit vote had caused some uncertainty for the business but said he and his team were optimistic for future growth.

“Demand for our range both here and overseas has never been higher, as more and more consumers seek out products that won’t harm them or the planet,” he said.

“Yes, there’s some uncertainty for everyone following the referendum, but generally we are extremely optimistic and anticipate continued growth as we enter our next financial year.”
