School signs up with the Gunners

YOU might have thought that there was no obvious connection between Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger and a soccer school based in Yorkshire.

But Grard School of Football, which is based in the University of Hull's Enterprise Centre, has signed a high-profile deal with Arsenal.

The business was established by 19-year-old Grard Jones and his father, Bryn, in February 2009.

The schools are based on the methods used by Arsenal manager, Arsne Wenger.

Angus Kinnear, Arsenal's marketing director, said: "The vision of Arsenal Soccer Schools is to promote a positive learning environment in which young players can both improve their understanding of the game, developing technical skills and gain confidence as individuals.

"To enable us to deliver regular programmes around the UK we work with local providers, like Grard School of Football, who already achieve high standards, train them in the Arsenal way and work with them to develop the programmes further."

Grard Jones, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to provide children in East Yorkshire and the Humber with specialist football coaching using an established and globally recognised training model."

Mr Jones said the coaching would be aimed at beginners and those who are "pushing on to more advanced levels".
