Scores of jobs at risk at Bradford site

Consultation with employees at Switchgear & Instrumentation Ltd, in Ripley Road, will begin on Monday about the potential cuts which could affect all levels and all disciplines at the plant, which designs and manufactures switchgear for the industrial market.

Richard Fearnside, head of human resources, said: “Our first and foremost concern for all our workforce is treating them fairly and fulfilling our obligations and legal requirements during a process as regrettable as this.”

He stressed that nothing has been determined yet.

The company is part of the Texas-based Powell group and employs a total of 280 people in Bradford.

Mr Fearnside said: “Powell has invested in this business since 2005.

“There has been considerable investment into the Bradford plant and personnel and Powell remains committed to its business in Bradford.”
