Search for skilled staff to aid revival of the textile industry

A YORKSHIRE woman who has established a wool mill in the West Country is planning to do her bit to revive Britain’s textile industry.

Sue Blacker, whose family come from Bradford, is looking for skilled management and engineering staff, who would be interested in working at the Natural Fibre Company based in Launceston, Cornwall.

Ms Blacker bought the company in 2005 and moved it from Mid Wales to the West Country.

She said: “Given the way the economic power of the world is switching from Europe and the US to Asia, there is a possibility that Britain’s wool industry will be presented with an opportunity that could trigger a revival, provided there are enough trained engineers to do the job. We want to speak to engineers and managers who want to stay in the industry and are prepared to teach their skills to others so the business can thrive long after they have retired.”

Making the mill profitable has been tough. As well as undertaking small-batch commission spinning for farmers from Yorkshire, the Natural Fibre Company has also taken trade orders.
