Serving up the numbers

A business transfer agent urged firms to get their numbers right when they consider selling.

Rosens Business Transfer Agents, which has negotiated the sale of 15,000 fried fish companies, is run by partners Harvey Freeman and David Rosen.

Mr Freeman said: "The most important consideration when considering selling a business is to ensure that all accounting figures are in place for proof of turnover and for a potential buyer to gain funding. Ensure all equipment is regularly maintained. Consider the overall presentation of the business to a potential buyer. Be realistic in the price and build in flexibility for negotiation. Ensure your energy performance certificate is in place and use a specialist agent rather than a general agent."

Rosens sells about 150 fish and chip shops each year across northern England
