Shaw puts growth in focus with opticians deal

OPTICAL business Shaw Sight Consultancy has bought D Bank Opticians, in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, for an undisclosed sum, after the current owners retired.

Bradford-based Shaw Sight Consultancy secured a six-figure loan from Santander Corporate Banking to purchase D Bank Opticians. Husband and wife team, Steve and Fiona Shaw, have owned and managed the Bradford opticians and dental practice for 18 years, after buying the practice from Mrs Shaw’s father in 1994.

D Bank Opticians, a family-run business, was started in 1949 by Douglas Bank. Geoffrey Staddon joined the practice in 1984.

Mr and Mrs Shaw said they plan to manage both practices between them and keep on the current staff in the South Elmsall practice. The new practice offers ophthalmic services, including sight tests, spectacles and fitting and supply of contact lenses.

There are six members of staff between the two practices and the turnover of the combined business is more than £500,000. Mr Shaw said: “We have been looking for an opportunity to expand for the past few months, so when we discovered that Geoffrey Staddon was looking to retire, we jumped at the opportunity.

“Geoffrey has done a fantastic job and we hope we can continue to adapt and grow the business over the next few years.”
