Shoe giant stores closed by Christmas

Eighteen stores in the collapsed shoe shop chain Barratts Priceless will be closed before Christmas, administrators said yesterday.

Five Barratts and 13 Priceless stores across the UK and Ireland will shut on Friday. They include one at Crossgates, east Leeds.

This will result in the loss of 127 jobs, with a further 60 staff members in the head office in Bradford also being made redundant.

Barratts stores set to close this week are in Connswater, Kilmarnock, Darlington, Cardiff and Blackpool.

The 13 Priceless stores are in Croydon, Durham, Oldham, Strabane, Crossgates, Kettering, Carlow, Donaghmede, Torquay, Weymouth, Kings Lynn, Bexhill on Sea, and Erdington. The shoe chain collapsed into administration earlier this month, following unseasonably mild weather further exacerbating already difficult trading conditions.

Administrator Deloitte said that it would continue to trade the remaining 173 stores as it seeks a buyer for all or parts of the business as a going concern.
